The RFO – Content – Basic objectives

The overall objective of the RFO "Change on Borders" was to dismantle borders and border-like barriers in Europe through a stimulation of new cooperation opportunities in different aspects of daily life. The RFO aimed in particular at:

  • enhancing and deepening the exchange of experiences on themes for cross-border cooperation. It was intended to improve knowledge on best-practice examples in Europe and to stimulate the cross-border cooperation.
  • transferring and applying best-practice know-how through the elaboration of new policy approaches or cross-border projects that could partly be implemented directly as "kick-off pilot projects" within "Change on Borders".
  • spreading this information among border regions, cross-border cooperation structures and other actors involved in cross-border cooperation.
  • improving the effectiveness of Community regional policy instruments, in particular the project-based implementation of different INTERREG A and other EU-programmes supporting cross-border cooperation.
